Blepharitis Treatment

How is Blepharitis treated?

Blepharitis is an eyelid disorder where the eyelid is inflamed. The causes of eyelid inflammation could range from dandruff, to an allergic reaction to makeup, or an infection. It can cause itchy eyelids and dry eyelids and can be a chronic condition that requires daily attention.

Keeping your eyes clean by washing them and using warm compresses are some treatments for most cases of blepharitis. Medications such as such as antibiotics and steroids may be prescribed for more serious cases.

Eyelid inflammation caused by bacterial infection are treated with antibiotics that are applied to the eyelids. These are available in the form of eyedrops, creams and ointments. An oral antibiotic is sometimes prescribed in addition to a topical antibiotic.
