Asthma Treatment

How is Asthma treated?

Asthma is a disease that causes breathing difficulty due to inflammation of the air passages in the lungs that allow oxygen to the body. It causes breathlessness and difficulty in breathing.

Several medications are available depending on what works best to prevent your asthma. They include inhalers with medication that is inhaled deep into the lungs to open swollen airways that impair breathing.  Quick-relief inhalers are also called bronchodilators, they are taken on a long-term basis, and help to prevent and reduce the inflammation in your airways. These medications should be taken daily to prevent symptoms. Other forms of treatment that provide quick relief from breathlessness include nebulisers, where medication in the form of a fine mist is breathed in through a mask. These medications open up the airways to provide relief from breathlessness.
