Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a potentially blinding eye disease that affects at least one out of three diabetics. The severity of DR is an important marker of the status of systemic microvasculature in diabetics.

DR is asymptomatic in the vast majority of patients and a prompt diagnosis is only possible with annual retinal evaluation. Although retinal photography is a useful screening tool for DR, it is not a substitute for a good comprehensive eye examination.

Systemic optimization of diabetes and other systemic risk factors is of paramount importance in reducing the risk of severe vision-threatening retinopathy. This CME Lunch Talk will feature how an improved understanding of the molecular pathophysiology and the advances in management of DR have significantly improved visual outcomes for this disease.

*This session is open to doctors and healthcare professionals only. Thank you.
