Biography

Dr. Brian Khoo graduated with distinction in 1998 from Queen’s University of Belfast, UK. He completed his Basic Specialty Training and attained Membership with the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP) in 2002. Dr. Khoo underwent Advanced Specialist Training in Cardiology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and obtained specialist accreditation in Cardiology from the Ministry of Health & Singapore Medical Council in 2006. He furthered his studies by spending a year in interventional cardiology, under Dr. Neal Kleiman at the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Centre and Dr Ken Fujise at the University of Texas Medical Branch, USA.

Dr. Khoo is the only doctor in Singapore to have been accepted to the United States-based Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s sponsorship programme as an interventional cardiology fellow. Upon completion of his training, he joined Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He was appointed as Director of the Coronary Care unit, Cardiac Catheterisation at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, as well as visiting consultant in National Heart Centre and National University Heart Centre. As Chairman of the Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) workgroup, he was instrumental in setting up the 24-hour Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention service.

Dr. Khoo has been actively involved in teaching undergraduates and post graduates medical and nursing students, and was a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore; instructor for advance cardiac life support (ACLS); and Core Clinical Faculty member for cardiology in National Healthcare Group Cardiology Residency Programme. Dr. Khoo has also participated in numerous researches and was the principal investigator for the hospital in many international randomized controlled trials involving patients with cardiac disease. After KTPH, Dr. Khoo joined Nobel Heart Centre under the Healthway Group, Mount Alvernia Hospital in 2014 as their principal Cardiologist.

After a number of years with them, Dr. Khoo set up his own private clinic in 2018, where his mission is to provide high quality, personalised medical care to his patients. Ascension Heart Centre can be found in 2 convenient locations at Mount Alvernia Hospital and at Farrer Park Hospital.

Dr. Khoo's specialty interests are heart failure and heart transplantation and interventional cardiology.
