Biography

Dr. Pinakin is a United Kingdom fellowship trained Cardiologist at Farrer Park Hospital, Singapore. He received his undergraduate medical degree from National University of Singapore and completed his cardiology residency in National Heart Centre of Singapore. He subsequently went to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in the UK for his interventional cardiology completion. He continues to be a member of the British Cardiovascular Interventional Society and is an accredited physician in the UK General Medical Council.

He takes a keen interest in treating chronic cardiovascular risk factors (e.g. high blood pressure & cholesterol, diabetes, weight management etc) as well as evaluating concerning symptoms (e.g. chest pains, breathlessness, palpitations, giddiness etc). He has an in-depth interest in the continuum from primary to specialist care and has obtained a Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine.

He subspecializes in interventional cardiology (angiogram and angioplasties) for the procedural treatment of blockages in heart that can lead to chest pains and heart attacks. He is trained in modern day techniques of imaging and physiology to optimize his procedures. He is skilled in complex subsets such as left main, calcified lesions, bifurcations and chronic total occlusions. In addition, he performs emergency angioplasties for patients with heart attacks and cardiac arrests.

He remains a visiting consultant to both Woodlands Health Campus and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, institutions he worked in before leaving for private practice.

He is an appointed fellow of major cardiology colleges in the world (Singapore, Asean, Asia Pacific, American and European) and is regularly invited as faculty (speaker and panelist) to international cardiology meetings. He is also a clinical tutor in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and leads the annual Singapore Cardiac Society's national quiz competition for cardiology trainees.

He finds it meaningful to share and educate the public with regards to cardiovascular health and has been featured on television, radio and newsprint to help with the awareness.

While it is true that you should eat a diet low in saturated and trans fat if you have heart disease, other fats such as unsaturated fats in olive oil and nuts are actually beneficial. In fact, eating fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, twice a week can lower the risk of heart disease.
