Biography

Dr. Bernard Lee Chee Siang is a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in sports surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. Over the years, he has honed his practice to improve patient outcomes with faster recovery, with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive or arthroscopic surgery where possible. Dr. Lee has a particular interest in complex knee problems, which includes the revision of multi-ligament knee injuries as well as joint preservation surgery.

Prior to private practice, he was the Director of Sports, Shoulder & Elbow Services at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. During his tenure, he raised the standard of care to international levels and trained aspiring orthopedic surgeons. He was also Senior Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore (NUS)'s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, where he was responsible for teaching and assessing undergraduates.

After graduating from NUS in 2003, Dr. Lee went on to complete his postgraduate surgical training in orthopedic surgery. During his postgraduate training, he was admitted as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and obtained his Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery from NUS. He was later admitted as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Following the completion of his specialist training, Dr. Lee underwent further subspecialty training in shoulder, elbow, hip and knee surgery. He embarked on an Australian Orthopaedic Association-accredited fellowship program to train in revision and complex hip and knee replacement and reconstructive surgery in Melbourne, Australia.

Thereafter, Dr. Lee underwent comprehensive shoulder and elbow sub-speciality training in New Zealand encompassing complex trauma, joint replacement as well as arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery for sports and degenerative conditions of the shoulder and elbow. With a particular interest in sports injuries and joint preservation, Dr. Bernard Lee further underwent sports surgery training locally. He subsequently obtained a Graduate Certificate in Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland.

Apart from clinical work, Dr. Lee has also contributed greatly to the medical field through teaching and research. He regularly instructs at arthroscopy courses of the shoulder and knee for orthopedic surgeons in the Asia-Pacific region. He is also actively involved in postgraduate arthroscopy courses for local orthopedic trainees. In addition to being a reviewer for several medical journals, Dr. Lee has also contributed his own research publications to several international journals as well as a book chapter in an internationally published book.

Dr. Lee is an avid badminton player and a firm believer in the health benefits of sports. He believes this allows him to relate to the problems and concerns of his patients. In turn, he is able to treat them better with care and understanding.

Dr. Lee's specialty interests are complex knee problems, joint preservation surgery and sports injuries and joint preservation.
