Offering our China Partners insights to “SMART” Hospital Operations  and Strengthening Ties through Mutual Learning

Singapore, 13 November 2018 - Widely recognised as a leading smart hospital in the region, Farrer Park Hospital (FPH) has hosted a regular stream of international visitors, summing up to over 400 visitors since January in 2018 alone. Amongst which, about 80% of these visits were in collaboration with China’s eminent groups and organisations, including Lingholm Holdings, Amber Global Medical Services, OCCB International and more. With firm belief that knowledge sharing and continuous education are key to enhancing medical capabilities and providing better care to all patients, FPH has established close ties with our regional partners from China, including various healthcare specialists, professionals and management.

China being the world’s most populated country accounts for 18.5% of the global population at 1.4 billion people. With its sheer size, strategic research and advisory firm, Global Growth Markets (GGM) Research estimates about 500,000 outbound Chinese medical travelers spend at least $10 billion a year and forecasts that over 165 million more urban Chinese aged above 40 in 2024 than in 2014, will seek overseas treatment. The growth in wealth and lifestyle diseases are behind the boom in medical tourists from China.

On 2016 Medical Tourism Index, Singapore ranked 4th globally among medical tourism destinations, as the pinnacle of quality for advanced medical treatment and care in the region. Aligned to the evolving healthcare needs of Chinese outbound patients for treatment of critical diseases such as neurological and cardiovascular diseases and cancer, FPH has some of the most experienced cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and oncologists in the region. These skilled specialists from various specialties work together to cover the myriad related conditions that affect patients with complex conditions. “The popular treatments that medical tourists come for range from simple angiograms to the more complex bypasses. We have done close to 140 complex cardiac surgeries with zero adverse morbidity.” said Dr. Peng Chung Mien, Chief Executive Officer of FPH.

The good patient outcomes are supported by FPH’s advanced facilities with large hybrid theatres and state-of-the-art equipment to form an ecosystem. These are the many attributes which appealed to our China partners who are keen to gain exposure to Singapore’s healthcare environment. The structured Advanced Hospital Management Course for our Chinese visitors allows them to learn the differentiating aspects of FPH as a “SMART” Hospital of the future from Dr. Peng and Branding to IT Ecosystem from FPH’s key figures.

Coupled with the in-depth tour which allow our China visitors a glimpse into the daily operations of a fully integrated healthcare and hospitality complex, this offers them an insight to FPH’s “unique blend” of advanced technology and professional care, combined with the ambiance and comfort of a five star hotel. “The course and visit at FPH has widened our perspective in many areas, medically and operationally. This has been a fruitful visit as we observe many concepts and ideas that serves as great learning points for our hospitals back in China.” Shared Mr. Fang Sheng, Director of Mingsheng ENT Medical Group. “The opportunity to interact with the hospital management and learn mutually is indeed precious. We look forward to nurturing our friendships and explore potential collaborations.” Added Ms. Wen Yuanjing, General Manager of Jing Wen Opthalmology Division.

It is a valuable session for both Singapore and China healthcare professionals through mutual learning and interactive discussions on the healthcare industry. Strongly encouraged by strengthening of ties with our China partners, FPH will continue to reach out with more learning collaborations that benefits the community.
