Biography

Dr. Han Fucai is a senior orthopaedic consultant ith more than 17 years of experience, having performed over 5000 orthopedic surgeries and procedures.

Dr. Han is skilled in a wide range of surgical techniques, including keyhole surgery, joint preservation surgery, and joint replacement surgery for the Knee, Hip, Shoulder & Elbow joints. His primary interests lie in complex sports and joint preservation surgery for the knee ( such as cartilage repair& restoration, osteotomies, multi-ligaments reconstruction, revision ACL reconstruction, complex meniscus tears/ meniscus transplant ) and shoulder joints ( such as shoulder fracture dislocations and massive rotator cuff tears), and he has a wealth of experience and expertise in these areas.

Dr. Han's extensive training includes a Ministry of Health (MOH) Training Scholarship for his orthopedic training and further 2 years of sub-specialty overseas fellowship trainings. He is one of the few orthopedic surgeons who has completed three prestigious North American, UK & Europe fellowships, and is well-trained in three areas of sub-speciality in Sports Orthopedics & Arthroscopy, Joint Reconstructions/ Preservation, and Fracture Surgery. He first completed an AOSSM (American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine)-accredited Orthopaedic Sports Medicine fellowship at the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic (London, Ontario, Canada), and trained under Professor Robert Litchfield, Alan Getgood and Robert Giffin. Subsequently, he underwent a second world renowned fellowship in Trauma/Fractures & Joint replacement surgeries in Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, UK, working with a group of established surgeons such as Professor Steffen Breusch, Jeff Reid and Michael Robinson. He concluded his subspecialty training in Oslo University Hospital & Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre (Norway), under the tutelage of Professor Gilbert Moatshe who treats competitive national athletes in the Norwegian Olympic Sports Centre.

Additionally, he was awarded an AOTrauma Fellowship in 2017/2018 for his attachment in NYU Langone Hospitals (Hospital for Joint Diseases and Bellevue Hospital) in New York, USA. During his fellowship stint, he was heavily involved in the care of high level athletes including American Football, Ice hockey, Skiing and Soccer. Upon his return to Singapore, he has treated and continues to manage numerous competitive athletes with injuries ranging from soccer, rugby, martial arts,( taekwando, mixed martial arts, kickboxing & Brazilian jiu-jitsu) soft ball and floor ball.

Prior to starting his private practice, Dr. Han was the Head of the Division of Sports Surgery & Medicine, as well as the Division of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, National University Health System. He is known for his patient-oriented approach, and during his tenure, he was the annual recipient of Excellent Service Quality Patient Service award since 2018.

Dr. Han is committed to offering patients a comprehensive range of treatment options for their individual needs and conditions. Dr Han uses cutting-edge surgical techniques combined with a team approach involving physiotherapists and sports trainers to return athletes to previous level of sports. He is also a clinical lecturer and Adjunct Asst Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, and maintains a keen interest in research and teaching.

Dr. Han's specialty interest is in joint replacement, sports surgery, minimal invasive surgery, and knee, shoulder, hip & ankle arthroscopic surgeries.
