Biography

Dr. Stanley Chia is an accomplished interventional cardiologist with extensive experience in managing complex coronary artery disease and a wide spectrum of cardiovascular conditions. He is particularly skilled in challenging coronary interventional procedures, including left main disease, chronic total occlusions, and calcified lesions, and is recognised for his precision and expertise in high-risk cases.

Dr. Chia’s academic journey began with the prestigious British Heart Foundation Scholarship Scheme and a Junior Research Fellowship, enabling him to pursue a doctoral programme in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Edinburgh from 2000 to 2002. He went on to complete advanced specialty training in cardiology at the National Heart Centre Singapore and was certified as a specialist in cardiology in 2006.

To further enhance his skills, Dr. Chia trained as an interventional cardiology fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and served as a research fellow at Harvard Medical School. These international fellowships broadened his clinical perspective and deepened his technical expertise in advanced cardiovascular interventions.

Before entering private practice, Dr. Chia was a senior consultant cardiologist and interventional cardiologist at the National Heart Centre Singapore. He also served as a clinical senior lecturer at the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Medicine and as director of the cardiology residency programme, where he played a key role in shaping the next generation of cardiologists through mentorship and curriculum development.

In addition to his clinical and teaching commitments, Dr. Chia has contributed significantly to research and medical ethics governance. He is currently deputy chairman of the SingHealth Institution Research Ethics Committee and has served on the National Medical Research Council Scientific Review Panel. His research has focused on advanced intravascular imaging techniques such as optical coherence tomography, providing new insights into the development and progression of coronary artery disease.

Dr. Chia’s clinical expertise extends to structural heart interventions and advanced coronary procedures, and he has published extensively in leading international peer-reviewed journals. His research contributions have helped refine diagnostic approaches and treatment strategies in interventional cardiology, reflecting his commitment to evidence-based practice and innovation.

A sought-after speaker, Dr. Chia actively participates in the cardiology community, organising and presenting at numerous international and local conferences. His presentations often highlight advances in imaging and intervention, inspiring fellow clinicians and fostering collaboration within the global cardiovascular field.
