Biography

Dr. Tay Kai Hong is Founder and Medical Director of Private Space Medical. A psychiatrist with over 12 years of clinical experience, he treats a wide range of psychological conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD and insomnia. Dr. Tay obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore in 2009 before completing his post-graduate specialist qualifications as a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (United Kingdom). Dr. Tay was in-charge of the Psychological Medicine Inpatient Centre, a specialised unit of the SAF Psychological Care Centre, during his National Service. There, he assessed and determined the PES status of National Servicemen who struggled with mental health. When he was in public service, Dr. Tay developed resilience programs and gave regular talks to healthcare professionals and the public to promote mental resilience and prevent burnout. He was Director of Mental Resilience and member of the SingHealth Mental Wellness Steering committee.

Dr. Tay also established himself as an expert in sleep disorders. He has authored insomnia treatment guidelines and led the development of sleep medicine service in Psychiatry. He has published research on insomnia, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and neuro-stimulation and presented his research at both local and international conferences. He also set up brain stimulation facilities to treat patients with severe mood disorders in a general hospital.

As the Site Director for the National Psychiatry Residency Program, Dr. Tay played a pivotal role in training the next generation of psychiatrists. He sat on the selection panel to interview applicants to the specialist program and oversaw specialist training in his hospital. He served as Chairman of the specialist training program evaluation committee and contributed to development of the curriculum and training program. He has taught and mentored many batches of specialist trainees.

Dr. Tay is a passionate educator and was appointed Clinical Asst. Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. For his teaching excellence, he had received teaching awards from National University of Singapore and National Healthcare Group. Dr. Tay’s kind and caring demeanour towards patients led him to be awarded the Singapore Health Quality Service (Star) Award, and Gold Award in the hospital’s clinical service and patient experience awards ceremony. Today, Dr. Tay continues to be hungry for knowledge and professional development. His clinical interests include youth mental health, sleep disorders, mood/anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and developmental disorders such as ADHD, autism and intellectual disability. Dr. Tay hopes to deliver science-based and patient-centric psychological care by combining the best practices within the field. His care philosophy is to provide holistic and personalised care to help patients achieve their full potential in life.

Dr. Tay's specialty interests are in anxiety disorders, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism and intellectual disability, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), sleep disorders and insomnia; and youth mental health.
