Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery is a well-established set of methods and technologies that promise faster and better recovery, as well as less trauma for the patient. This well-validated platform around the world, encompasses procedures which can address the majority of surgical conditions of the heart. The program established by Prof. Theo Kofidis, cum Center of Excellence at NUHS has reached global reputation, published a book, trains the young generation, and positioned the Department amongst the top in Asia, having helped hundreds of patients so far. A unique simulation center was formed, and surgeons trained from all over the world. Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery, with all its facets (Endoscopic, Hybrid and Robotic) provides an excellent platform for collaboration with the Cardiologist, who should be updated on the potential, the outcomes and developments, which promise to change the face of Heart Surgery globally.

Prof. Theo Kofidis
Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Professor Theo Kofidis is Head of the Department of Cardiac-, Thoracic- and Vascular Surgery, at the National University Hospital of Singapore, Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, an expert, high-volume Adult Cardiac Surgery- and minimally invasive heart surgeon, as well as avid researcher. A globally renowned Cardiac Surgeon, covering the entire Adult Cardiac Surgery spectrum, including Heart Failure, Robotic and Hybrid procedures, he is a strongly sought-for proctor and surgical teacher around the world. One of only few AATS members in SE Asia, he is also an Ambassador / Steering Committee of the World Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery for the same region.

He is Founder and Owner of the Company Kardia Pte Ltd, aiming at the development of disruptive heart valve- and minimally invasive heart surgery technology. Over the last 10 years in Singapore, he has established a complete, pioneering and comprehensive Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery program in the region, and set up an advanced hemodynamic research laboratory and Cardiovascular Surgical Research Group in Singapore, after winning numerous grants. He directs two Centers of Excellence and a Peak of Excellence in the domain of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery between NUHS and Industry.

Professor Kofidis is decorated with multiple awards by international bodies, such as the European Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, The Onassis Heart Center, The Hellenic Cardiology Society (Life-Time Achievement Award), the SMICTSI (Indian Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (Life-Time achievement award) and others. He serves as Consultant or Advisory Board Member for prominent Industry, such as Medtronic, Johnson&Johnson, Abbott, Livanova and others. With his innovative, QR-code-based book on Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (Taylor&Francis/CRC Press, NY/London), he launched an entirely novel educational concept of Read-Scan-Watch. He also serves as Chairman of the Education Committee of the Asian Society for CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery (ASCVTS) and Chairman of the CT Surgery Chapter of the Singapore Cardiac Society.

Professor Kofidis has trained in some of the world’s leading institutions (Rochester, NY/Texas Heart, Houston/Hannover Germany, Stanford, CA, USA). carries various offices and commitments internationally. He has lectured for the American Medical Association, the FDA, the Bill Gates Research Institute and more. As an academic teacher, proctor and Consultant for a number of companies in the field-related industry, he is holding events and workshops in various countries around the world, bringing Minimally Invasive knowhow to doctors and patients alike.

Professor Theo Kofidis lives in Singapore with his wife Persephone and daughter Danai, loves to fly airplanes, photograph, work out and read.
