Cholangioscopy is a non-invasive endoscopic method used for both direct visual diagnostic evaluation and simultaneous therapeutic intervention of the bile ducts. Early per oral cholangioscopes were used as early as the 1950’s but had several limitations. These systems included the mother-daughter scope systems and slim gastroscopes. However, the SpyGlass single operator single use system has overcome many of these limitations and is being used increasingly since the 2000’s. Today, we take a deep dive into this fascinating endoscopic technique illustrated with an interesting case.
