This hybrid session is open to doctors and healthcare professionals only. 1 CME point will be awarded.

Salivary gland swellings present a common yet often complex diagnostic challenge in clinical practice, encompassing a wide spectrum of conditions ranging from obstructive and infective aetiologies to autoimmune disorders, as well as benign and malignant neoplasms. Accurate early assessment is crucial, as management strategies and outcomes vary significantly depending on the underlying cause.

This session will provide a practical, structured approach to the evaluation and management of salivary gland swellings, with an emphasis on clinically relevant history-taking, targeted physical examination, and red flag features suggestive of malignancy. Appropriate use of imaging modalities and tissue diagnosis will be discussed, alongside current referral pathways and indications for specialist input.

We will also share additional insights into reconstructive considerations following parotidectomy, including management of facial nerve deficits, and principles of facial reanimation surgery. This integrated perspective aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the full patient journey, from initial presentation and diagnosis to definitive treatment and functional rehabilitation.
