Actinium-225 Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) Nuclear Therapy treats advanced prostate cancer, especially for patients who were heavily pretreated with current existing forms of cancer therapy, including Lutetium 177 PSMA Therapy.

It uses an alpha-emitting radioisotope that is both short-range and high energy, making it effective in specifically targeting and destroying cancer cells.

  • Our doctors will screen you to ascertain the exact stage of your cancer.
  • Blood investigation of marrow function, renal function, and PSA levels is usually needed.
  • A PSMA PET/CT scan required for staging and assessment of the tumor.
  • A detailed medical history of all previous therapies such as hormonal, chemotherapy, radioligand, and radiotherapy.

  • Refrain from food in the morning on the day of the treatment..
  • Drink water to stay hydrated.

What happens during  Actinium-225 Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) Nuclear Therapy?

  • An intravenous line is inserted, and the Actinium-225 PSMA is hand injected slowly.
  • The treatment using the Actinium 225 PSMA typically takes approximately one hour and can comfortably be done as an outpatient procedure.
  • During treatment, you are to remain in the suite.
  • A Nuclear Medicine Technologist will monitor the level of radiation from you after the infusion procedure is completed.
  • No complications or side effects are expected during the actual infusion.
  • Return the next day after approximately 24 hours post-infusion for a full-body scan.

What happens after Actinium-225 Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) Nuclear Therapy?

  • Radiotracer not taken up is typically excreted through urine.
  • Normal daily activities can resume.
  • No particular or special diet needed.
  • Avoid prolonged close contact with pregnant women and young children under the age of five for at least one week after treatment.

  • Dry mouth effects come on after a few weeks.
  • Typically should not have any immediate side effects.
  • Some may experience marrow suppression due to the radiation.
