Dr. Sivathasan is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon who was instrumental in establishing several major programs in Singapore such as the Mechanical Heart Assist and the heart-lung transplant program at National Heart Centre Singapore.
Dr. Sivathasan received the prestigious National Outstanding Clinical Award by the Ministry of Health in 2011, for his contributions towards the development of cardiothoracic surgery for almost 25 years. In 2010, He was also awarded the Healthcare Humanity Award, presented by the President of Singapore.
Dr. Sivathasam is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Academy of Medicine Singapore. He also completed his post-graduate surgical training in the U.K.
Dr. Sivathasan has been taking on an active role in helping to initiate Mechanical Cardiac Support Programs in numerous countries through various training workshops. He has also traveled widely in the region helping various hospitals in Asia Pacific such as India, Thailand, Vietnam Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Australia, in initiating or introducing newer mechanical heart devices to support failing hearts.
Dr. Sivathasan's specialty interests are aortic aneurysm, aortic valve replacement, chest and lung surgery, coronary bypass surgery, LVAD and heart failure surgery, mitral valve repair/replacement, repair of pectus excavation and carinatum and vascular surgery.
