Dr. Mark Fernandes is specialist in Gastroenterology with an interest in Liver Disorders including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, Liver Cancer and in Fibroscan for monitoring the progression of liver disease.
Prior to private practice, Dr. Fernandes was previously a Consultant and Clinical Tutor at the National University Hospital, where he was also part of the Liver Transplant Program team. He also furthered his exposure to Liver Transplantation Medicine at the King’s College Hospital in London, U.K.
Dr. Fernandes graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours in 1997 and subsequently obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with Honours in 2000. He completed his residency in London, U.K. and Singapore and obtained his Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the U.K. in 2003. He was then accredited as a Specialist in Gastroenterology by Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore).
In 2007, he was awarded the Healthcare Manpower Development Program scholarship by MOH to pursue an Advanced Fellowship in Liver Cancer and Hepatitis B at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan under Professor Lin Shi Ming and Professor Liaw Yuan Fai.
Apart from clinical work, Dr. Fernandes has also been involved in multiple clinical research trials and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. He has also been invited to present his research work at international conferences. His research interests and publications include basic science, epidemiology and clinical studies in gastrointestinal cancers, hepatitis B and liver transplant.
Dr. Fernandes' specialty interests are firboscan for monitoring the progression of liver disease, liver disorders and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
