Biography

Dr. Ajeet Madhav Wagle is a Medical Director and Senior Consultant at International Eye Cataract Retina Centre at Farrer Park Medical Centre. He specializes in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases such as retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions as well as advanced modern cataract surgery and comprehensive eye care.

Prior to private practice, Dr. Ajeet was a Consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Alexandra Hospital and Jurong Medical Centre. He is now a Visiting Consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He was also a Clinical Senior Lecturer at National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a part-time lecturer at the Optometry Centres at Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Dr. Ajeet obtained his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom in 1999. After completing his Basic and Advanced Surgical Training in Ophthalmology, Dr. Ajeet went on to pursue his Clinical Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases at Sankara Nethralaya, a renowned eye hospital in Chennai, India.

Dr. Ajeet also has a keen interest in research. He has published many papers in various peer-reviewed scientific journals and has authored a book: “A Vision for the Nation: A Decade of AMD Awareness Campaign in Singapore” and two book chapters. Dr. Ajeet has also received many awards including the Best Outgoing Student (Gold) by the Medical Research Foundation and Health Services Excellence Award (Silver) from Alexandra Hospital.

Apart from clinical work, Dr. Ajeet has been actively involved in raising awareness for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in Singapore. From 2008 to 2011, Dr. Ajeet spearheaded the nationwide AMD Awareness Week campaign in Singapore as Chairman of the Organizing Committee and helped to secure a Public Health Education Grant from the Ministry of Health to support the campaign for six consecutive years.

Dr. Ajeet has also been actively volunteering his time to provide free eye surgeries for needy patients in developing countries. He strongly believes in giving his best to care for every patient.

Dr. Ajeet's specialty interest is advanced modern cataract surgery, comprehensive eye care, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment and retinal vascular occlusions.
