Bariatric Surgery for Obese Type 2 Diabetics
Bariatric Surgery is the most effective long-term treatment for Morbid Obesity. The CME Lunch Talk will present class I evidence on weight reduction effectiveness and long-term maintenance; metabolic parameters improvement; and safety of Bariatric Surgery.

This talk will also share worldwide and local epidemic statistics of Type 2 Diabetes on Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes.

While weight reduction is important for metabolic improvement, there are other mechanisms involved. Some have been shown to be more efficacious than others in this respect and the most effective metabolic operation will be discussed.

Dr Anton Cheng

General Surgeon

Dr Anton Cheng was a Senior Consultant in the Department of Surgery in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

He has been in Singapore for the last 18 years. Before that he was trained and practice in New Zealand in General Surgery.

He took over the Obesity Surgery portfolio in Alexandra Hospital 15 years ago and introduced Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass to Singapore. He served as the founding President of the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore; and served one term as Member-at-Large of the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity and Metabolic Diseases, Asia Pacific Chapter (IFSO APC); as well as two terms as Executive Council Member of IFSO.

Currently he is Visiting Consultant to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital Clinical Research Unit and Department of Surgery. His research interest has been mainly in Obesity and Metabolic Diseases.
