Stress Incontinence Treatment

How is Stress Incontinence treated?

Incontinence refers to the loss of bladder control and stress incontinence happens when intra-abdominal pressure from physical activities leads to unintentional urine leakage.

Kegel exercises strengthen the sphincter and pelvic muscles and can help better contract the muscles used to stop a stream of urine.

Bladder training helps strengthen the muscles in the bladder where you wait longer between needing to urinate and passing urine.

Electrical stimulation is another treatment where a mild electrical current is sent through your pelvic floor muscles. This attempts to  improve the function of urinary muscles and the bladder.

Surgical treatments involve the insertion of a bulbourethral sling which serves as an additional support for the urethra to improve a person's bladder control. Collagen may also be directly injected into the supportive tissues of your urethra. This strengthens the sphincter muscle by increasing pressure on the urethra.

We are always happy to help.
