What is Dry Eye?

Dry eye is a condition where the supply of tears is not enough to keep the eyes adequately lubricated. Eye lubrication is essential for good vision and comfort and maintain a person’s comfort and good inadequate lubrication can lead to several uncomfortable symptoms.

The eyes have glands that play an important role in the production of tears essential for the eyes to function. Tears help to provide moisture and lubrication and prevent infection. and an imbalance of tear production can cause an inadequate supply of tears. 
 

What are the symptoms of Dry Eye?

  • Blurred vision or eye fatigue
  • Difficulty wearing contact lenses
  • Difficulty with nighttime driving
  • Eye redness
  • Sensation of having something in your eyes
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Stinging, burning or scratchy sensation in your eyes
  • Stringy mucus in or around your eyes
  • Watery eyes, which is the body's response to the irritation of dry eyes
     

How is Dry Eye diagnosed?

Eye exam
An eye exam is done to assess your eye health.

Schirmer's Test
A Schirmer's Test may be done to measure tear production  levels and tear quality.
