Traditionally, severe valvular heart disease is treated primarily with surgical correction. However, with the high surgical risks in a significant proportion of patients, rapid developments in percutaneous interventions have occurred in the last decade or so. This talk will summarize the indications for intervention in severe valvular heart disease and the percutaneous treatment options that are available and in development. We will also highlight the potential of early detection with AI assistance.

Dr. Ong Sea Hing
Cardiologist
Dr. Ong Sea Hing is a Consultant Cardiologist and Physician. His area of subspecialty is in coronary artery angioplasty and stenting including complex coronary interventions.He also performs transcatheter aortic valve implantations (TAVI).
Dr. Ong’s passion is for holistic patient care as well as teaching and training. His involvement in teaching included being a Core Faculty member of the Singhealth Cardiology Senior Residency Program and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. During his tenure at CGH, he was appointed Director of the only JCI accredited Acute Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) Program in the country, from 2008 to 2015.
In the area of academics and research, Dr. Ong has published numerous research papers including articles in high impact factor journals. He has been invited as faculty member of several Asia-Pacific regional conferences and has presented in international conferences including winning best cases in the TCT Best Challenging Cases competition.
Dr. Ong is a believer that prevention is better than cure and therefore has organised several public forums and general practitioners symposiums with a focus on prevention as well as early detection of heart diseases.
Dr. Ong's specialty interests are complex coronary interventions, coronary artery angioplasty, stenting and structural heart interventions.
