Dr. Aravind Kumar
Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Aravind Kumar is an orthopedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience. He has special interests in spinal conditions such as slipped discs, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, fractures etc. which can lead to back pain, leg or arm pain and deformity, and has treated them extensively throughout his career.

He also has experience in minimally invasive surgical techniques such as MIS-TLIF, MIS-XLIF, MIS-ALIF and MIS fracture stabilization. These minimally invasive techniques are known to enable quicker patient recovery and return to function. He also employs endoscopic surgery for certain indications. He also has experience in the use of computer navigation aided surgery that helps to improve the accuracy of spinal surgery.

Prior to private practice, Dr. Aravind was a Consultant Orthopedic and Spine Surgeon in Singapore, having worked in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Ng Teng Fong Hospital. He perfected his skills during these years for the betterment of his patients and received numerous awards in recognition of his work.

Dr. Aravind graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Madras Medical College in Chennai, India. He was awarded Gold medal for Orthopaedic Surgery during his time as an undergraduate. Dr. Aravind then took up his basic surgical training in the U.K. and later became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He then took up his orthopedic resident training program in Cardiff, Wales. He completed the training with a Certificate of Completion of Training and became a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (TR & Orth).

To further his training in spinal surgery, Dr. Aravind went to Perth, Western Australia for a fellowship in scoliosis surgery and spinal trauma surgery at the Royal Perth Hospital. Upon completion, he returned to the U.K. for another fellowship in degenerative spinal surgery and spinal deformity at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, U.K. These experiences further strengthened the 18-month training he received at the spine unit in Cardiff, Wales.

Apart from clinical work, Dr. Aravind is also an educator. He teaches at the National University of Singapore’s NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine where he has been conferred several awards. He is also a popular trainer for orthopedic residents from the National Healthcare Group and National University Hospital System training programs. He is also a member of the Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery Committee, one that is active in the assessment of junior orthopedic residents.

Dr. Aravind is a member of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, AO spine, Association of Spine Surgeons of India, Singapore Spine Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences in Singapore.

He maintains an active academic profile and has been part of several publications in the field of Spinal Surgery. He has presented professional papers in numerous international for and is also part of the faculty in several instructional hands-on training courses for juniors as well as experienced surgeons.

Dr. Aravind believes in serving the local community beyond the confines of a healthcare setting. He has been actively involved in educating the public on spinal and orthopedic health through public health seminars, radio talk shows etc. He believes in helping people manage their orthopedic and spinal health issues with a holistic approach that includes lifestyle change, mild medication, physical therapy and surgery.

Dr. Aravind's specialty interests are back and neck pain, joint replacement and trauma, scoliosis, slipped disc, spinal oncology and spinal stenosis. 
 

Dr. Dennis Ng
Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Dennis Ng is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with more than 13 years of clinical experience and specialises in the treatment of Shoulder, Knee and Sports conditions.

He was the Deputy Head of the Shoulder Elbow Division and a key member of the Sports Medicine Division in National University Hospital before moving on to private practice. Common conditions that he treats include frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, shoulder impingement, shoulder dislocation and instability, shoulder arthritis, upper limb fractures, tennis elbow, as well as knee conditions such as knee cartilage injury, ligament tears (ACL), meniscus tears and knee arthritis.

Minimally invasive techniques are used for better surgical outcomes and reduced downtime. Patients include national athletes for sports such as basketball, soccer, judo, rugby, rock climbing and cycling etc.

He obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore in 2007 and was awarded Dean’s List in AY2003/04. Subsequently, he pursued his postgraduate training in Orthopaedic Surgery and obtained his Masters of Medicine in 2013. In 2015, he received the Gold Medal Award for being the top candidate in the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Examination (FRCSEd Orth).

Dr. Dennis Ng was awarded the Human Manpower Development Plan scholarship from the Ministry of Health and underwent subspecialty training at the esteemed Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Centre, Ontario, Canada. He has extensive experience with the management of sports injuries, having treated professional athletes in North America.

As a firm believer in the training of younger surgeons, Dr. Ng was a Core Faculty for the NUH Residency Program, and part of the Organizing Committee for the National Shoulder & Knee Arthroscopy Course. He was conferred the title of Assistant Professor by the National University of Singapore and was also appointed to various positions at the institution. These included Patient Safety Officer, and Clinical Documentation and DRG Coding Clinician Champion.

He was also responsible for the supervision and mentoring of residents posted to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, NUH. In May 2018, he was the Co-Convenor for the Joint Specialty Fellowship Examination in Orthopaedic Surgery. Besides postgraduate teaching, Dr. Ng was also involved with undergraduate teaching in clinics and tutorial sessions. He was the Convenor for AY17/18 – 3rd Professional MBBS Examinations and was also regularly involved as an invigilator for the MBBS Phase III and V examinations.

Besides his clinical duties, Dr. Ng has also contributed to the scientific literature of Orthopaedic Surgery with papers published and abstracts presented at both local and international medical conferences.
