Security

These men in white are not just another face in the Hospital. They are our first line of defence against the invisible enemy that is COVID-19.

As the Hospital’s core security team, a typical 12-hours shift for Eric, Ravi and Raymond during the pandemic involves running around triage stations to monitor and manage crowds, and most importantly, to ensure that infection control protocols and measures are adhered by.

However, their job does not end there. Being a security officer also means the trio must be ever ready for all emergency situations. Whenever there is a suspect or confirmed COVID-19 case, these gentlemen are required to escort them to the respective wards or department.

When asked if fear ever struck their mind since they are on the frontline, Ravi said the 2003 SARS outbreak prepared him for this. Besides, they had “no time to be scared”. Eric confessed that there were some fears initially but he sees this experience as a learning journey instead.

Highlighting the importance of teamwork, Eric shared: “Guidelines and safety protocols were constantly changing because of the evolving situation. We had to work closely as a team to ensure our staff gets the same message and implement the correct restrictions.”

“However, it also helped to bring our team closer together as we learned to trust one another even more,” added Raymond.

Asked what does ‘heroes’ mean to them, the trio agreed that they are not here for that title. What matters most is that they do their part to keep the Hospital safe and secure.

“As long as everyone is good and well taken care of, that’s what matters most,” Ravi concluded.
