Share with us your daily responsibilities at work in FPH
My role in ICU covers a wide scope, ranging from different procedures, surgical and medical cases which requires resuscitation etc. In FPH, I find myself learning something new every day. Treatments are advanced, machines and equipment are state of the art. As nurses, we have to be self-competent, learn fast and adapt to changes as well as be capable of taking good care of patients and assist the doctors.

As ICU patients are in a critically ill state, patients and their family members, are usually affected emotionally. It is vital for us to be empathetic and understanding, to explain the patient’s condition tactfully while providing them with emotional support.

What keeps you inspired in the line of your profession?
I genuinely love the nature of nursing. The interaction between the patients and taking care of someone keeps me going. I had a stint in nursing education back in KL where I was in charge of teaching but I recall the desire to return to providing care for patients. I feel a deep sense of satisfaction after witnessing the patients under my care recover. This is more so in the ICU department, where I am part of the team who contributes in the care of patients in critical situations. It constantly reminds me the importance of my role in providing excellent clinical care towards successful outcomes.

Reveal a personal hobby which your colleagues may not know.
As a person who takes joy in overcoming challenges, I embarked on my recent interest last year - Diving! It was a personal challenge as I used to have phobia of the sea and waters. I took the first step and overcame that fear after a diver friend with a deep passion for diving encouraged me to simply try. I have since achieved my diving license in Malaysia and look forward to more diving adventure ahead!
