The People of FPH
Our Nurses, Our Heroes, Beyond the Call of Duty
Do you know your colleagues beyond work?
As we go about our daily hustle and bustle of work routine, we may not have the chance to know our colleagues better. Keep a lookout for this new column as we feature staff personalities to uncover the untold stories that inspires them to provide the extra mile service in FPH!

This month, we introduce to you
Steve Mocsoy, Staff Nurse, Endoscopy Suite
(FPH Family since October 2016)
Steve likes the family culture in FPH. A culture where everyone is approachable and recognizes each other’s efforts. He believes that one does not just perform work duties to meet the bare minimum and constantly strives for self-improvement in each task assigned to him.   By seeking regular feedback from patients and peers, he believes that the mutual feedback system allows staff to learn effectively on the ground.

Steve revealed that if he were not a nurse, he would have been a medical doctor or a tattoo artist! But he had always wanted to work in a hospital setting and credits his father as the major reason for this choice. A turning point of his life was when his father passed on which triggered Steve to switch from pursuing his education track of becoming a medical doctor to nursing. It was a calling and Steve has never looked back on his thirteen years in Nursing.

A huge fan of body art, he is the eldest sibling in the family with two younger brothers, and is married with one daughter. He names his daughter as his main source of inspiration in making a positive difference for his patients and their loved ones. Not only does Steve finds his scope of work fulfilling but it also allows him to gain exposure by meeting people from all walks of life. From a practitioner of contact sports involving mixed martial arts, to sporting a fancy collection of sneakers and a proud co-owner of “Sneaks & Snacks”, a burger-sneaker shop based in Philippines, Steve wears many hats and is affectionately known as the “crazy” person among his peers. With many interests and hobbies, FPH nurses are indeed multi-talented and to Steve,
“Working in healthcare is a passion and you will ultimately reach a breaking point. However, when you endeavour past that breaking point, you will find the focus and strength to go on.
The smile from your patients at the end of the day is just enough."
Recently, Steve, together with the Code PINK team, was under the media spotlight early June 2017, for rendering assistance to a man who suffered from stroke while driving.  To recap the scenario, Steve who just ended his shift was on his way home noticed a car had hit the railing and lady passenger was trying to revive the driver. Steve reacted instinctively and activated Code PINK.

Nothing gives us more honor and pride, as when our Nurses are recognized for their bravery and taking obligations to another level to save lives. The heroism within them gives us comfort in knowing that our Nurses are the best of the crop with immense spirit and character. These are the Nurses who we are proud to say are our FPH Heroes!
Celebration Dedicated to The Heroes of FPH
Caring and touching the lives of many patients on a daily basis is no easy feat for our nurses. So, to express our heartfelt appreciation for their contributions, Farrer Park Hospital (FPH) celebrated Nurses Day 2017 for our Heroes of FPH, through a series of exciting events.
A week before the grand celebration, our Director of Nursing, Ms Kelly Yang, together with the Nurses Day Committee presented Nurses Day gifts to all nurses to thank them for their sacrifice, hard work and utmost care towards our patients.

Through the decoration contest held a month prior, our nurses unleashed their creativity and embellished their units using only recycled materials. Kudos to ICU, IPS 7 and CVS for winning first, second and third place respectively!
These snippets of events led to the grand day of celebration on 1 August.
Nurses were ushered into the ballroom adorned with thoughtful touches. To honour their contributions, boards of appreciation notes from FPH staff were presented at the entrance, delighting the nurses upon entry.
Dr Timothy Low, CEO, FPH commenced the celebration with a heartwarming speech to inspire our nurses, and with an update of the hospital's current development and progress.

Prof Choo, Chairman, FPH, Dr Peng, Chairman, TFPC and Kelly Yang, Director of Nursing, FPH also expressed their gratitude for our nurses efforts.

The fanfare of food, gifts and entertainment were the highlights of the day, bringing much fun and laughter to our everyday heroes of FPH. A dedicated segment, the Excellence Award Presentation Ceremony, was also included in this year's programme to recognize the great talent we have here at Farrer Park Hospital.

"With a profession to care, heal and make a difference in the lives of others, it is a meaningful celebration that recognizes our nurses' unyielding effort and make a difference in theirs too."

Spider-Man Hijacks Doctors Town Hall
Work and play came together on 11 July as we held our Doctors Town Hall and movie night with our doctors, family and friends.
The evening started off with a mid-year progress update on FPH and Farrerpedia, followed by a movie screening of the latest Marvel blockbuster film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Everyone had a blast at the Doctors Town Hall with a twist!

FPH Recognised for Cardiovascular Care

Farrer Park Hospital clinched the Leading Hospital for Cardiovascular Care award at the Icons of Healthcare 2017! Lewis Ng, our Head of Sales & Marketing received the award on behalf of FPH on stage at the Raffles Town Club on 21st July 2017.

This is the 11th award that we have received in 2017, and the 2nd clinical excellence award after our recent recognition of Oncology Service Provider of The Year by Global Health and Travel.

This leadless device requires a trained specialist and fully qualified team, together with a state of the art facility to perform the procedure. This award gives recognition to our dedicated nurses, medical technologists and doctors, and at the same time strengthens our reputation as one of the leading Cardiovascular Teams in the region.

Icons of Healthcare seeks to recognize the innovation and excellence demonstrated by healthcare providers as well as individual professionals.

Participated by leading healthcare organizations from across Asia Pacific and the Middle East, we are proud that Farrer Park Hospital has been able to stand up to the challenge and bring home this prestigious award.
